For my project, I am hoping to focus on an infectious disease. In 2021, I was personally affected by a dual infection caused by antibacterial resistant strains of bacteria. Coming into contact with this infection was obviously never my intention, just as it isn’t for others. This lack of control over your own body is a brutal reality that leads me to desire to complete more research on infectious disease. My first choice would be to research the exact bacterial infection/s that took so much time from my life. Preferably, I would focus on the less common infection, C.difficile, as this was the root cause of all my symptoms. Additionally, I would be interested in looking at sexually transmitted infections like HIV or genital Herpes as these diseases are typically seen as taboo, even though they can affect anyone. Lastly, I would be interested in researching infections that come from contact with infected animals included Rabies and Lyme disease. No matter which infectious disease I choose, the nature of the disease is worth researching as anyone could become sick from these pathogens within an instant.
